How to choose sunscreen products correctly?
Sun protection is an extremely important part of the skin care process and a basic measure to protect skin health. Whether it is to prevent tanning or to avoid deep damage to the skin by ultraviolet rays, it is crucial to choose the right sunscreen product.
Faced with a wide variety of sunscreen products on the market, many people feel at a loss as to where to start.
Basic knowledge of ultraviolet rays and sun protection
The main goal of sun protection is to protect the skin from damage by ultraviolet rays. Ultraviolet rays are divided into two categories: UVA and UVB according to different wavelengths. UVA belongs to long-wave ultraviolet rays with extremely strong penetration.
It can penetrate deep into the dermis of the skin, causing photoaging, wrinkles and spots. UVB is medium-wave ultraviolet rays, which mainly act on the epidermis, causing sunburn and sunburn. Long-term exposure to ultraviolet rays may also increase the risk of skin cancer.
Therefore, a good sunscreen product not only needs to prevent sunburn, but also should effectively prevent the occurrence of photoaging.
The protective ability of sunscreen products is usually measured by two indicators: SPF and PA. SPF (sun protection factor) indicates the degree of protection against UVB. The higher the value, the stronger the ability to resist UVB.
Generally speaking, SPF 15 can block about 93% of UVB, SPF 30 can reach 97%, and SPF 50 can block about 98%. PA is an indicator of UVA protection ability, usually expressed as a "+" number. PA+ provides basic protection, while PA++++ is the highest level of protection.

Types and selection principles of sunscreen products
Sunscreen products on the market can be divided into physical sunscreen, chemical sunscreen and mixed sunscreen according to their main ingredients and mechanisms of action. Physical sunscreens mainly rely on titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to achieve protection by reflecting and scattering ultraviolet rays.
This type of product has a thick texture, but is gentle on the skin and is suitable for sensitive skin and children. Chemical sunscreens absorb ultraviolet rays and convert them into heat for release. Ingredients include avobenzone, octocrylene, etc.
Chemical sunscreens are light and thin, and feel better when used, but may be irritating to sensitive skin. Mixed sunscreens combine the advantages of both and provide more comprehensive protection.
When choosing a sunscreen product, you need to consider your personal skin type, scene requirements and seasonal characteristics. If you have oily skin, you can choose sunscreen products with oil-free formula or gel texture to avoid clogging pores.
Dry skin is suitable for cream-type sunscreen containing moisturizing ingredients. For sensitive skin, physical sunscreen is more recommended because of its low irritation. In addition, it is recommended to choose sunscreen products with waterproof properties for outdoor activities to reduce the impact of sweat or water contact.
For daily commuting, SPF 30 and PA+++ sunscreen products can meet the needs, while outdoor travel or beach vacations require SPF 50 and PA++++ high-power protection products.
It should be noted that the higher the sun protection index, the better. Too high SPF value may cause the texture to be heavy, burden the skin, and affect the use experience.

Correct use of sunscreen products
After choosing the right sunscreen product, the correct use method is equally important. First, apply sunscreen 15 to 20 minutes before going out to ensure that it is fully absorbed and forms a protective barrier.
The recommended amount of sunscreen for the face is the size of a one-yuan coin, and each part of the body requires about 1-2 ml. Even application is the key to ensure the protective effect, especially for the ears, neck, back of the hands and other easily neglected parts.
The effect of sunscreen products will decrease over time, so reapplication is an important step to maintain the protective effect. Generally, reapplication is required every 2 hours, especially when exposed to the sun for a long time or sweating a lot.
In addition, the use of sunscreen cannot completely replace physical sun protection. Wearing hats, sunglasses, and using parasols are still necessary auxiliary measures.
When cleaning the skin after sun protection, some sunscreen products, especially waterproof sunscreen, require professional makeup removal products to avoid residues clogging pores. Many people ignore this, which may cause acne or closed comedones.

Common misunderstandings and precautions
Many people still have some misunderstandings about sun protection, such as thinking that sun protection is not needed on cloudy days or indoors. In fact, UVA can penetrate clouds and glass, causing potential damage to the skin. Therefore, daily sun protection is essential regardless of the weather.
Another common misunderstanding is to rely too much on sunscreen products with high SPF values, thinking that high indexes can reduce the frequency of application.
In fact, although the SPF value affects the duration of protection, high-power sunscreen does not mean that reapplication can be completely ignored. In addition, some people will apply sunscreen after going out, which will expose the skin to the strongest ultraviolet rays without protection, affecting the protection effect.
With the increase in environmental awareness, more and more consumers are beginning to pay attention to the impact of sunscreen products on the environment. Some chemical ingredients such as oxybenzone and octinoxate may cause harm to coral reefs and marine life.
Therefore, when purchasing, you can pay attention to whether the product is labeled "coral-friendly" or "environmentally friendly formula".
When choosing sunscreen products for children and pregnant women, they should be particularly cautious and give priority to mild physical sunscreens to avoid ingredients that may pose potential risks to health, such as oxybenzone.
Sunscreen is a long-term work in skin care and an important part of health management. Regardless of the season and weather, sunscreen should be a fixed step in daily skin care.
When choosing sunscreen products, make reasonable decisions based on your skin type, daily needs and usage scenarios. Persistent use of sunscreen products can not only effectively prevent sunburn and tanning, but also delay skin aging and protect skin health.
